If you are unable to login to X via kdm after portupgrading to
the latest
kdebase port and you're getting these or similar messages on
the console

please do the following:

1.) Copy /usr/local/share/config/kdm/kdmrc away to a safe
place, for example
your home directory ( cp /usr/local/share/config/kdm/kdmrc ~/ )

2.) Run, as root: genkdmconf --no-old

3.) Put your copy of kdmrc back to /usr/local/share/config/kdm
/kdmrc (cp
~/kdmrc /usr/local/share/config/kdm/ )

Optional step 4.) Run, as root: genkdmconf (without any
options) to update
your kdmrc to the lastest configfile format

Note for advanced users: Substitute /usr/local with your
custom PREFIX if
you're using one.

無事Xorgが起動した。startxでkde3が立ち上がるのも確認。
kdmを使用するよう/etc/ttysを書き換え再起動。
kdmの画面が表示される。

早速login.・・・っと。再びログイン画面が表示される。何度やってもだめ。
logを確認すると

kdm: :0[857]: Cannot execute startup script "/usr/local/share/config/kdm/Xstartup"
kdm: :0[879]: Can't execute "/usr/local/share/config/kdm/Xreset"": No such file or directory
kdm: :0[885]: Can't execute "/usr/local/share/config/kdm/Xsetup": No such file or directory
などが記録されている。
Xstartup、Xreset、Xsetupがうまくインストールされていないらしい。
/usr/local/share/config/kdm/に以前使っていたXsessionがコピーされていたのでXstartupにsymbolicLinkを張ってみる。これでlogin可能となったが、rootでしかlogin出来ない。
Xstartup、Xreset、Xsetupを探さなきゃ・・・・・

案の定、Xorgが起動しない。

現在のkernelのconfigファイルとGENERALのdiffをとってみると

device mem # Memory and kernel memory devices
device io # I/O device

The /dev/mem, /dev/io /dev/(null/zero) devices are now modules,

先日、cvsupのsupfileのtagをtag=.からtag=RELENG_5に書き換えた。なのに、昨日make worldしたら、めでたく(?)FreeBSD 6.0-CURRENTとなった。なぜ？？
しばらくは5-Stableを使うつもりだったのに・・・・。

そしてXをXorgに入れ替え。
portinstall x11/xorgすると「libexpat.so.4 がない」
と言って途中で止まる。そういえばいつごろからか、同じエラーを出してkwordなどが起動しなくなっていたな。

天気：晴れ

VAIO R505Rで久々にsourceをcvsup。
UPDATINGをながめると、どうやらFreeBSD6の開発が始まり5系がStableになったようだ。

*default release=cvs tag=RELENG_5

でStableのUPDATINGを見ると
Important recent entries: 20040724 (default X changes).
むむ。
Xがかわっているのか・・・・・
最後に触ったのが7月11日だったので、その直後に変わったらしい。設定法勉強しなきゃUpdateできないなぁ。
